In the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420 CE) in China, there was a wise and sagacious young Dharma master named Kumarajiva living in the Kingdom of Kucha in Central Asia. The name Kumarajiva meant "a child endowed with the wisdom of the elders". When he was only seven, his mother became a Buddhist nun and he followed her to travel several states throughout India, where he studied Buddhist doctrine.
